Dear Parent/Guardian,
As the end of your son`s first year in Oatlands College draws to a close, it is time to choose subjects for Junior Certificate.
Your son will continue with Irish, English, Maths, Science, History, Geography and Religion. You are now asked to decide which 3 subjects from the 3 different provisional subject lines outlined below he will continue with. Only one subject can be selected per line.
Please note that students who select Technology, Business, French or German from Line 3 will sit 10 subjects for the Junior Certificate. Students who choose the Short Courses option from Line 3 will sit 9 subjects for the Junior Certificate, as the Short Courses are school assessed separate to the formal Junior Certificate Examinations. The Short Courses have yet to be finalised but will include a combination of 2 subjects from Computers, Speech and Drama, Art, Home Economics or Citizenship.
Line 1 | Technical Graphics* | Business | German | Music*
Line 2 | Technology* | Business | Art* | French
Line 3 | Technology* | Business | German | French | Short Courses |
*Denotes a maximum class size of 24 students. All others subjects have a maximum of 30.
Please note that if your son does not have an official Irish exemption, and chooses not to study French or German, that this currently has implications for college application to many courses in the National University of Ireland Universities of Dublin, Maynooth, Cork and Galway, as well as the NUI constituent colleges.
Please return your Line 1, Line 2 and Line 3 selection to Ms McDonagh by email by Friday May 1st. Any subject forms returned after that date will be allocated remaining places on a first come basis. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Ms McDonagh at clodaghmcdonagh@oatlands.net.
Yours Faithfully,
