Green Schools Committee
Our Green Schools Committee is a collection of students from 1st -4th year. The Committee works together to make our school a cleaner, greener and more environmentally friendly space for all staff and students.
We are currently working towards our Energy Flag, while keeping up with our first flag – Litter and Waste. To date, we have carried out an energy audit of school, we take weekly readings of the meters, investigate areas in which we can reduce our energy usage, and create and stick up new signage on topics such as Energy Tips and facts. We have also celebrated our own Earth Hour.
Several of our committee members came together at the beginning of the year to tackle the rising issue of Pointless Plastic in our locality. Together, they petitioned local shops and our school canteen to reduce the amount of plastic they use. We then used this to enter the Young Environmentalist Awards, and our team made it to the Leinster Semi-finals.
Next year we hope to finalise our work on our Energy Flag and continue to look after our school environment.
