Welcome to our Parents' Council
We are very fortunate to have a vibrant, committed and hard-working Parents’ Council (PC) in Oatlands College, and all parents/guardians of students attending the College are deemed to be members of the Parents Council.
The role of the Parent’s Council is to:
- support, foster and promote co-operation between parents/guardians, student council, teachers and college management
- provide a forum for the views of parents
- provide feedback/input into development and amendment of school policies
- help fundraise for particular school projects.
Committee
Our PC committee meets every month, usually on the first Tuesday. We hold an AGM in September each year. All parents are welcome to join our committee, and we have representatives of each year group from 1st – 6th year, on the committee. Our Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer generally hold these positions for a period of three years, and two elected members of our Council also represent us for the same period on the Board of Management. For our school year 2023/24 these roles are held by:
- Chairperson: Ann-Marie Lynch
- Secretary: Jenny Sheerin
- Treasurer: Noirin Kelleher
- BOM Reps: Marie Kilmartin and Una O’Brien
Activities
All committee members contribute their time and energy to events and activities throughout the school year. These events promote a happy community spirit for all our boys in Oatlands College. We are involved in organising and helping with:
- Coffee Mornings, Parent-Teacher Meetings, Information Evenings, Open Nights, Graduation Nights
- TY Annual Musical
- 6th Year Debs Reception, Graduation, Breakfast, Leaving Day BBQ
- Bag2School Initiative, Uniform Sales
We also offer help and practical support to school management when dealing with projects affecting the school and local community, such as the recently secured permission for our new all-weather pitch development.
We are very lucky and grateful to have parents and a wonderfully supportive local business community who donate prizes and sponsorship to the Parents Council. This ensures that the maximum amount possible from our fundraising endeavours goes directly to benefit the College and all the boys.
Our planned fundraising projects for 2023/24 include a Cake Sale, our annual Christmas Raffle, and a Table Quiz.
Contact Us
Each year group has their own parents’ WhatsApp group, with a PC member as Administrator. These groups are a very useful source of information about general school activities and our various PC events, as our boys can sometimes forget to share these details! If you would like to be included in the group for your son’s year, please email your details to us.
If you would like to be generally involved with the Parent’s Council, but are unable to commit on a regular basis, we also have an active and enthusiastic group of volunteer parents who assist us during the year at just one or more of our larger events. We would be delighted to hear from you!
If you would like to get involved, make a donation, sponsor one of our events or have any queries, please contact us directly at oatlandspc@gmail.com
Looking forward to your support during the year.
